Citations

There are many ways in which citation contributes to the overall message a specific article is trying to convey. These include providing credibility, acknowledging the contributions of previous authors, and providing readers with a frame of reference. It is important that we as the authors of our blog take into account the work we build off of. As Isaac Newton once said: “If I seem to see further than others, it is only because I stand on the shoulders of giants”. Also, citations lend our work an air of credibility. In essence we are providing proof for the claims we make in our blog. If a reader is particularly interested in the topics discussed in our post, good citations will serve as a sort of roadmap for them to use in exploring further. Engaging a reader so deeply with our material is then only possible through accurate and thorough citations.

Our blog will target a professional audience; therefore, we have agreed to use the Modern Language Association (MLA) format. We chose MLA because it has been used by most schools, academic departments and instructors for over half a century when citing sources in the liberal arts and humanities.
